Fair Housing Fair Opens Doors to Homeownership for Low Income Families
Los Angeles, CA – April 20, 2009: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (www.habitatla.org) and the City of Lynwood will be seeking new applicants for ten LEED homes to be built in Lynwood at the Fair Housing Fair Orientation. Low-income families willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity will learn about the application process and interested parties are asked to attend the mandatory homeowner orientation that follows. Applications will only be available at the orientation, which will be offered in English and Spanish.

WHY: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles strives to make affordable housing available to low-income families. Los Angeles is ranked last in housing affordability in the United States and on any given night as many as 83,000 people may be homeless. Ten LEED homes will be built in the City of Lynwood and low-income Lynwood residents and workers are encouraged to attend the mandatory orientation to apply. Habitat partner families must be willing to invest 500 hours of “sweat equity” in the building of their home, be able to pay back a zero-interest loan and demonstrate the need for safe, decent shelter. Habitat for Humanity family services staff will be on hand to answer all questions and assist attendees with the application process.
