Los Angeles Young Lawyers Association aims to Raise Money & Awareness to Combat Affordable Housing Crisis
Los Angeles, CA – June 9, 2009: Los Angeles Young Lawyers Association (LAYLA) will be hosting its 1st Annual Bowl-A-Thon where in addition to pledge sheet donations, 20% of all proceeds throughout the evening, including shoe and lane rentals and food and drink purchases, will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA.) Associates from Los Angeles area law firms and their young professional friends are encouraged to attend the event to help make a difference in the lives of hardworking families in need. This event will be held at L.A. Live’s Lucky Strike Lanes (Downtown L.A.) on Wednesday, June 10th from 7 to 10 pm and features a lighthearted “Out Bowl Barack” theme challenging participants to beat President Obama’s bowling score. Habitat Partner Family members will also be in attendance to support the event and share their experiences as Habitat homeowners.
WHO: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles & Los Angeles Young Lawyers Association
WHAT: 1st Annual Bowl-A-Thon Fundraiser
WHERE: L.A. Live’s Lucky Strike Lanes
800 W. Olympic Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90015
WHEN: Wednesday, June 10, 2009
7:00 pm to 10:00 pm
WHY: LAYLA was founded by Rob Maylor, a young Los Angeles attorney who wished to unite other young attorneys through networking while doing something positive for the community. This “partying for a purpose” philosophy is helping raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity’s mission to end substandard housing and improve the lives of hardworking families. The partnership encourages young attorneys to learn more about the housing crisis facing Los Angeles and advocate for change through education and fundraising. Los Angeles continues to rank last in housing affordability in the U.S. and on any given night as many as 82,000 people may be homeless in the city. LAYLA’s previous fundraiser attracted over 600 supporters and raised over $1,000 in just a few hours. Maylor plans to continue his efforts through more fundraisers and build events in the coming months.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent affordable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated nearly 500 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. For more information, visit www.habitatla.org.
