“Healing with Humor” Features Popular Comedians, Dinner & Door Prizes to Benefit The Wellness Community
Hermosa Beach, CA -- August 20, 2009: Keith McCormack, an independent philanthropist from Redondo Beach, will host “Healing with Humor” event on Friday, August 28 to benefit local breast cancer support programs. Once again, The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach will host the event and book talent. Tickets are available for $75.00 through McCormack and include performances by popular comedians; a select dinner menu and door prizes donated by local businesses. Comedians scheduled to perform include Nick Griffin, Ryan Kiley, Dwayne Kennedy and more. All profits from the event will benefit The Wellness Community located in Redondo Beach.

WHY: After Keith McCormack lost his mother, Miriam, to breast cancer in 2005, he began to question the purpose of his own life. Finding a way to make sense of his loss, he decided to honor his mother’s life with a charity event that could also benefit others affected by the disease. Natalia Vargas, co-chair of the event, lost her 31 year-old sister to breast cancer in 2006 and contacted McCormack to offer her help in organizing this year’s event. Together, the pair enlisted support from friends, family and local businesses and set a goal of raising $10,000 with this year’s event. In addition to Vargas’ support; renowned numerologist and hypnotherapist Julian Michael and Filippo Voltaggliola, singer and host of “Life Changes with Filippo” radio show, both came on board as presenters for the event. Generous support from local sponsors such as The Comedy & Magic Club; Whole Foods; Trader Joe’s; Hoka Hoka Sushi; Grunions; Penguins Frozen Yogurt, Mediterraneo, Hennessey’s, and Paciugo have also helped make this event possible. When McCormack started his philanthropic efforts in 2007, he wanted to make a difference and inspire others to do the same.
