Los Angeles, CA - September 29, 2009: Today, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles partnered with Disney Parks to celebrate volunteerism and launch Disney's new program, "Give A Day, Get A Day". Over a hundred volunteers comprised of AmeriCorps members and L.A. Works, Disney Parks and Southwest Airlines Employees dawned hardhats with mouse ears and Mickey's signature white gloves as they raised the first walls for four of ten sustainable homes in City of Lynwood. Midway through today's shift, volunteers assembled for a surprise. Bob Iger, president/CEO of Walt Disney Company was joined by Teri Hatcher, James Denton, Kermit and Miss Piggy to announce that Disney was going to honor them and volunteers in 2010 by rewarding one million people who give a day of service with a day of fun at a Disney Park.

"Today was about celebrating volunteerism and jump starting a program that is sure to inspire a lot of people to come out and build with us, or give back in other ways to their community in 2010,” says Erin Rank, president/CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. “Today, Lynwood definitely felt like the happiest place on earth and I can’t thank Disney, the volunteers and our staff for their hard work.”

The "Give A Day, Get A Day" program officially starts January 1st and will run through 2010. People interested in participating can go to www.DisneyParks.com (U.S. and Puerto Rico), or www.DisneyParks.ca (Canada), to search for Habitat for Humanity and other volunteer opportunities in their area. Many of the opportunities are designed for the whole family to get involved and once a family, or individual, completes their day of service they will receive a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and Lynwood's Mayor Santillan encourage Los Angeles residents to spend their day of service taking part in Lynwood's first green building project; Habitat for Humanity of Greater L.A.'s new, ten-townhome neighborhood. Building is not the only way to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, there are several opportunities in the office and the Home Improvement Store in Gardena. Those interested in supporting this exciting project have the opportunity to bid on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity's Fall VIP Experience Auction at www.charitybuzz.com/hfhfh through October 6th.
