130 BANK OF AMERICA ASSOCIATES VOLUNTEER WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY & GIVE A LITTLE GREEN FOR LYNWOOD’S FIRST LEED CERTIFIED HOMES.

As of: 10-08-2009
Los Angeles, CA – October 8, 2009: This week, Bank of America associates and executives will give their time to help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angels (HFH GLA) frame walls on a new green neighborhood. In addition to providing 130 pairs of helping hands over the course of five days, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, today, presented a check to HFH GLA for $50,000 to help complete homes, which will be the first to seek USGBC LEED Certification in Lynwood. LEED homes use less energy, water, and natural resources, create less waste, and are more durable and comfortable for occupants.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of Bank of America and its amazing employees,” said Erin Rank, president/CEO, HFH GLA. “The volunteers this week will significantly change the lives of ten deserving families, whom they’ve never even met. That’s a wonderful gift!”

HFH GLA works in partnership with low-income families to build affordable, sustainable homes, while uniting communities with programs like A Brush with Kindness, a free home repair service) and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (a foreclosure rehabilitation program.)

Bank of America is committed to supporting the communities they serve by encouraging employee volunteerism and through philanthropic donations. Twenty-five Bank of America employees will volunteer each day at the build site, framing walls for ten hardworking Habitat partner families.

Building on a long-standing tradition of investing in the communities it serves, Bank of America this year embarked on a new, ten-year goal to donate $2 billion to nonprofit organizations engaged in improving the health and vitality of their neighborhoods. Funded by Bank of America, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation gave more than $200 million in 2008, making the bank the most generous financial institution in the world and the second largest donor of all U.S. corporations in cash contributions. Bank associate volunteers contributed more than 900,000 hours in 2008 to enhance the quality of life in their communities nationwide

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent affordable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated over 600 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. For more information, visit www.habitatla.org.
