AEG, Sony and Paradigm Celebrate iParticipate Week with EIF and Kick Off iParticipate Campaign By Shining the Spotlight on Affordable Housing in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA - October 26, 2009: On Friday, October 23rd volunteers from AEG, Sony and Paradigm came out for a day of hard work with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) during the Entertainment Industry Foundation's (EIF) iParticipate week. Even Luc Robitaille, former L.A. Kings player, winner of the Stanley Cup and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, lent a hand and left behind a special message on the walls for the partner families. Everyone left feeling like, “I participated in something special today,” and they did – having helped to build ten new, green homes for ten deserving families in City of Lynwood. This sentiment is what iparticipate week, which ran October 19th through the twenty-fourth, was all about. iParticipate week launched EIF's multi-year campaign with spotlighted segments, PSA’s and organized service projects. The campaign encourages the entertainment community to roll up their sleeves, volunteer and put the spotlight on service in our local communities and country, so that more people are inspired to make volunteering an important part of their lives.
“Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles and our partner families know the importance of volunteers,” says Erin Rank President/CEO of HFH GLA. “We were so happy to be a part of EIF's iParticipate week and that we could help launch this unprecedented campaign with AEG, Sony and Paradigm to promote volunteerism, which in the end will improve the lives of more families.”
Since the iParticipate campaign is about generating public interest in volunteering and the work of local organizations, HFH GLA invited the entertainment industry volunteers to “share the good” during their build experience by posting pictures and updates on their social networks in HFH GLA’s designated “Tweet Zone”. A blog round-up of the day’s tweets, experiences and pictures can be seen on HFH GLA’s Building A Greater L.A. Blog.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF GREATER LOS ANGELES strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent affordable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated over 600 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. For more information, visit www.habitatla.org.
HOLLYWOOD FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY (HFHFH) is an entertainment industry partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles that launched in 2000 with a 20 house "blitz build.” HFHFH was founded by Screenwriter/Director Randall Wallace (Braveheart, We Were Soldiers) to encourage the entertainment industry to support Habitat for Humanity’s goal of eliminating substandard housing worldwide. HFHFH works with talent and industry leaders who support the organization through donations, volunteer hours and advocacy. Thousands of volunteers from the entertainment industry have helped build homes in the United States and around the world. www.hollywoodforhabitat.com.
THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY FOUNDATION, Hollywood’s leading charity, is mobilizing the entire entertainment community around the ground-breaking, multi-year iParticipate campaign, which promotes a new way of thinking about service and seeks to motivate millions more Americans to volunteer regularly. As a centerpiece, beginning October 19, 2009, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and other broadcast networks will spotlight service through scripted programming, segments and PSAs during this week-long television event. More than 70 shows have signed up to participate. Visit www.iParticipate.org .
