Los Angeles, CA – December 4, 2009: Mosaic Church, a community founded on faith, hope and love, will be providing one local family with hope through homeownership in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. On Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 11:00am to 11:45am Mosaic Church volunteers, led by Erwin and Kim McManus, will be raising the first walls on the Mosaic Church sponsored home that will be one of ten sustainable homes in Habitat’s new, green neighborhood in Lynwood, CA.
WHEN: Saturday, December 5th, 2009
WHY: Los Angeles continues to rank last in the U.S in housing affordability and in this tough economy a growing number of families are either homeless, or living in substandard conditions. Erwin and Kim McManus, of Mosaic Church, recognize that the need for affordable housing is greater than ever and are sponsoring the first Mosaic Church home in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. They have personally donated $1,500 to the $150,000 that is needed to build the home and are rallying support from their congregation, friends and family to help them raise the remaining funds and build a home for a hardworking family. The Mosaic Church sponsored home will be built to LEED Silver specifications, which will result in lower utility bills for the family that will ultimately live in the home.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent affordable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated over 600 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. For more information, visit www.habitatla.org.
