HABITAT FOR HUMANITY NOW HIRING INTERNS IN LOS ANGELES

Join Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles as an intern this spring. Internships with HFH GLA offer the unique opportunity to work at a large non-profit serving low-income families. Three positions are available: Construction Management, Marketing & Communications, and Public Policy & Advocacy.

All positions:
Unpaid
8 – 10 weeks
10- 20 hours per week
Starting February 16 through March 8
Located at Gardena Office

Construction Management
2 days per week, 16 hours per week

Position Description: Assist Director of Construction in implementation of automated system to better analyze construction processes. Assist management with oversight of all phases of construction projects, ensuring that specifications are being followed and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Control project execution while tracking and reporting progress
- Create cost effective planning and scheduling for timely completion of all projects
- Develop construction schedule and cost accounting
- Provide detailed project analysis
- Suggest changes to present practices to ensure maximum efficiency.

Qualifications/Skills Needed: Understanding of construction project management, strong technical and interpersonal skills.


Marketing & Communications
15-20 hrs per week, 10 – 2 daily

Position Description:
Looking for an energetic person that is able to assist the Sr. Director of Marketing & Communications with daily marketing department needs. Must have good writing and verbal communication skills and be able to think creatively. Must be an independent thinker and able to work independently.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
- help maintain the HFH GLA website,
- research PR opportunities
- create flyers, ads and new one pagers for HFH GLA
- interview partner families and write bios
- edit articles
- assist in putting together marketing packets

Qualifications:
- College student or graduate in Marketing or PR related field
- Proficient in English
- Good writing and proofreading skills
- Great attitude and willingness to learn
- Experience in working on the web and research


Public Policy & Advocacy
10 hours per week if current student, 20 hours per week if recent grad

Position Description: The Public Policy and Advocacy Intern will work closely with the V.P. of Advocacy and Community Partnerships and the Manager of Community Outreach, and will research, monitor and provide written summaries for state and national housing legislation.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Monitor and conduct research on relevant housing issues and legislation.
- Update files for the Community Partnership Department.
- Assist in meeting planning, attend meetings as assigned, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Training/Expectations:
- Currently an undergraduate (2nd year or higher preferred), recent graduate, or graduate student pursing a degree in public administration, public policy, nonprofit administration or related program of study.
- Basic knowledge of advocacy at the local, state and federal levels.
- Strong communication and organization skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Sensitive to needs of people living in substandard housing conditions, also reliable and diligent.
