HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BREAKS GROUND ON THREE NEW HOMES IN LONG BEACH WITH PLAN TO REHABILITATE TWENTY-FIVE MORE HOMES

Los Angeles, CA – February 24, 2010: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) will break ground on three new homes in the City of Long Beach on Saturday, February 27th. In addition to the three new homes at the site, HFH GLA will also rehabilitate an additional home on nearby Magnolia Ave. A short presentation will begin at 10:30 am led by HFH GLA president/CEO, Erin Rank, to welcome distinguished guests, partners and attendees and explain how HFH GLA is partnering with the City of Long Beach to build and renovate 25 more homes with the city. Another longtime partner, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will also be in attendance to help break ground on the fifth home sponsored by their Thrivent Builds program in Greater Los Angeles.

What: Groundbreaking on three new affordable and sustainable homes (Rain or Shine, we have tents)
When: Saturday, February 27, 2010
10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Where: Long Beach, CA 90813
Why: On this site HFH GLA will build three new single-family homes at Henderson Avenue at 15th St. and rehabilitate another home on Magnolia in partnership with the Long Beach Housing Development Company. All three homes will have four bedrooms and two baths with approximately 1,300 sq. ft. One of the homes will be an (ADA) American Disabilities Act approved home for a family living with a disability. Construction will begin in May and is scheduled for completion early 2011. HFH GLA is also announcing a call to action for sponsors and volunteers, and an invitation to residents to sign up for homeownership opportunities. Each of the homes will be sold to low-income first-time homebuyers.
In addition to these homes, HFH GLA is proud to have been awarded a Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP 2) grant to rehabilitate 25 more homes in partnership with the City of Long Beach.
