SURVEY FINDS THAT GOVERNMENT REGULATION HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH BENTLEY PRINCE STREET & OTHER ORGANIZATIONS MANAGING CARBON EMISSIONS

As of: 3-05-2010
Financial & Social Responsibility Motivate Leaders in Sustainability to Report & Reduce their Carbon Footprints

Los Angeles, CA – [March 5, 2010] – Bentley Prince Street, Inc. is one of 400 organizations that recently participated in The Climate Registry survey, which measured what effect, if any, mandatory regulation had on each participant’s carbon management and reduction plans. The survey was completed in February 2010 and found that an overwhelming percentage of participants report and reduce their carbon emissions for two primary reasons: one, to reduce operating costs by maximizing energy efficiency and two, to accommodate a growing number of customers wanting to do business with sustainable organizations. Less than 20% of respondents reported that mandatory regulation had any effect on their carbon tracking and management goals – good news when the future of government regulation appears uncertain. Bentley Prince Street has been voluntarily reporting its carbon emissions since 2002, and is a member of the Climate Registered Program which showcases leading organizations that voluntarily report and reduce their carbon emissions with integrity. Through its Cool Carpet™ program, Bentley Prince Street is reducing its carbon footprint in order to move closer to its Mission Zero™ goal.

“With Mission Zero we have a commitment to ourselves, our customers and our community to completely eliminate any negative impact we have on the environment by the year 2020,” says Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. “We hope that voluntarily reporting how we manage and reduce our carbon emissions will inspire more organizations to adopt these same practices. Good products and service are important; however, knowing you’re delivering a product your customers will feel good about is incredibly rewarding.”

In addition to 80% of the respondents indicating that their main drive in reporting and reducing carbon emissions is to be an environmentally friendly company, 70% indicated that they wish to save money by reducing their carbon output. Furthermore, 82% responded that their future carbon management plans are not contingent on regulation. In analyzing these results, Bentley Prince Street found that its environmental goals and initiatives are very much in line with the rest of the survey’s findings. Other survey highlights included: almost half of participants indicated that they already have carbon reduction goals in place and 60% indicated that they also encourage suppliers to do the same.
