Kiwanis volunteers will build alongside HFH GLA volunteers, AmeriCorps members and homeowner partner families. The Kiwanis organization dedicates several days of service per year to stress how important it is for everyone to give back to the community regularly.

WHAT: Kiwanis Division 13 & Habitat for Humanity of Greater L.A. partnering to build affordable homes and give more children a safe place to grow up in.

WHEN: Saturday, April 3, 2010
8:00 am to 3:00 pm

WHY: Kiwanis Clubs supports the mission of Habitat for Humanity to make affordable housing a matter of consciousness for all. By giving a day of service to build homes, Kiwanis members hope to not only bring attention to the affordable housing crisis facing Greater Los Angeles, but to also combat it by raising walls and donating $2,500 to help the organization complete the 10 homes currently under construction in Lynwood. Mario Trujillo---Kiwanis Division 13 Lt. Governor joins 75 Kiwanis volunteers who will donate their time to build. The new neighborhood will be built to USGBC LEED Silver standards, which helps reduce utility costs for homeowners. These will be the first “green” homes to be built in the City of Lynwood.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent, affordable and sustainable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated over 600 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. HFH GLA is a GuideStar® Valued Partner.
