WHY: Across the country, and especially in Los Angeles, hardworking, low-income families are
either homeless, living in unsafe conditions or struggling to keep their homes. Fannie Mae recognizes the
need for more affordable housing solutions and has been a longtime supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Both Fannie Mae and HFH GLA believe it is important that these solutions, which include revitalizing communities by rehabilitating foreclosures and constructing new homes, also promote sustainability. HFH GLA is committed to building green because LEED homes use less energy, water and natural resources, create less waste and help reduce the costs of utility bills for partner families. Green features in the ten home neighborhood in Lynwood include; energy efficient appliances, recycled insulation, tankless water heaters and eliminated side yards and garages, which will allow for wide-open parks. In honor of Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, Fannie Mae employee volunteers will be building homes at Lynwood’s first green neighborhood.
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles strives to eliminate poverty housing through advocacy, education and partnership with families in need to build simple, decent, affordable and sustainable housing. Since 1990, HFH GLA has built and renovated over 600 homes locally and worldwide, transforming the lives of hundreds of individuals. HFH GLA is a GuideStar® Valued Partner.
