Hermosa Beach, CA – May 4, 2010: Hopes Song is a fashion line, social network and non-profit. All three parts of the organization work together to offer emotional, financial and educational support for anyone who has been affected by cancer. Today, Hopes Song is launching “Share Hope”; a contest that encourages cancer patients, cancer survivors, or friends and family, to share personal cancer stories and words of hope by submitting audio, video, or an essay at HopesSong.org. The grand prize winner will have a piece of apparel in Hopes Song’s Fall line named after him/her, or their loved one, and feature that individual’s words of hope on the hang tag. To enter participants must create a user name and register as a member at HopesSong.org. Members may upload video/audio entries, blog or post essays on the message board. All entries must be received by June 11, 2010 and include a photo of the person to be honored.
Voting for finalists will begin on June 14th and participants will receive an email with information on the voting process and how friends and family may vote for their entry. Three finalists will be announced on July 1st and their entries will be featured on the HopesSong.org homepage. Each finalist will receive a gift certificate to be used at www.HopesSong.com. The grand prize winner will be selected by a panel of judges and have a piece of apparel named after him/her, or their loved one, which will be announced at the launch of the Fall line.
“Every piece that I design for the Hopes Song clothing line has a cancer story behind it,” says Alexis Vitale, founder/designer of Hopes Song. “So it is exciting that the ‘Share Hope’ contest will encourage people to tell their stories, because people find strength in others’ stories and it will all result in one person being honored by having a beautiful piece of clothing named for him/her, or their loved one.”
Vitale was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on her 26th birthday. Her dream was always to be a fashion designer and her battle with cancer gave her the courage to create a clothing line with stylish and comfortable pieces for patients to wear during treatment. It has evolved into a line that anyone can enjoy, and a portion of sales from every purchase helps fund her non-profit and social network, HopesSong.org. The non-profit offers financial assistance to individuals and families faced with the cost of cancer, while the social network offers educational and emotional support. It is an online community where those affected by cancer, or not, can share stories, hope and find resources.
HOPES SONG is a non-profit foundation dedicated to providing support to cancer patients and their families in an online community. A clothing label funds the non-profit, where every article of clothing has a cancer patient’s story and name behind it.
