Influential Women from Various Sectors Put up Siding & Drywall on Habitat Homes in the City of Lynwood

Los Angeles, CA – June 18, 2010: On Saturday, June 12th, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA), in conjunction with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity (HFHFH), hosted the 6th annual “Power Women, Power Tools” build event. Powerful women from the entertainment industry, corporate, local government and faith organizations joined women from HFH GLA partner families to put up siding and drywall on ten, new sustainable homes under construction in the City of Lynwood. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about the organization and Los Angeles’ affordable housing crisis through speeches given by HFH GLA partner families and HFHFH founder, Randall Wallace.

“This past weekend, Power Women, Power Tools brought prominent women together to make affordable housing a matter of conscience and action in our local communities,” said Erin Rank, President/CEO of HFH GLA. “It is an event with extraordinary energy because women coming together to make a tangible, long lasting difference in the lives of hardworking families is empowering for all involved.”

This year’s volunteers included Lake Bell, Caroline Carver, Wedil David, Amy Devers, Hope Dworaczyk, Kristina Guerrero, Dawnn Lewis, Adrianne Palicki, Pauley Perrette, CCH Pounder, Patricia Richardson, Tom Shadyac, Linara Washington, as well as the Mayor of Lynwood, Maria Teresa Santillan, Mayor Pro Tem, Aide Castro, and the women of the Lynwood Redevelopment Agency.

In addition to building, a silent auction was also held to help raise the $150,000 needed to sponsor a Power Women, Power Tools home. The auction included an Xbox Elite console with games, a Bentley Prince Street area rug, hotel packages, Clinique skincare, iPod Nano, Disney memorabilia and a Nickelodeon casting session. To date, the organization has reached about a third of its goal of fully funding a Power Women, Power Tools home.
