Board Appoints Four New Members & Sets Goals to Build More Homes, Build Green and Build Together
Los Angeles, CA – June 29, 2010: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ (HFH GLA) Board of Directors is now eighteen members strong and ready to implement a new strategic vision to combat the affordable housing crisis. Under the leadership of Craig Russell, Walt Disney Imagineering executive, the Board of Directors has appointed four new members and set high goals for affordable housing that will greatly impact the hardworking, low-income families HFH GLA serves. New appointees Carl Jordan, Mike Lang, Matt Petersen and Linda Russell, bring different areas of expertise to the board in environmental sustainability, financial services and entertainment. Sharing the same enthusiasm as their fellow board members and wanting to demonstrate their commitment, the new Board of Directors joined existing members on Friday, June 25 in building ten green homes in Lynwood, California.
“HFH GLA’s Board strives to keep our mission forefront in our minds as we set the strategic direction for our affiliate,” says Erin Rank President and CEO. We gather on site and build together as a reminder that there is a great urgency in our communities to provide housing to those in need of adequate shelter.”
The current Board of Directors has taken a strategic approach to increasing awareness and support within the community, setting goals to build and rehabilitate more homes than ever before. Through city partnerships and the affiliate’s A Brush with Kindness and Neighborhood Stabilization programs, the board aims to increase the organization’s abilities to improve communities by rehabilitating foreclosures and supporting homeowners who are unable to maintain their homes.
HFH GLA celebrates its historic 20th Anniversary this year and to celebrate the affiliate hosted a Board of Directors build day on its 10-home build site in the newly named All American City of Lynwood. Board members and their families hung drywall, installed siding and roofing and more. Some Habitat partner families built alongside them and shared personal stories of homeownership. These ten homes will be the first to be certified LEED Silver by the USGBC in Lynwood.
About New Board Members:
Carl Jordan, Sr. VP of U.S. Bank, has always appreciated the positive impact the organization has on communities and families. He is a former member of Habitat for Humanity Valley of the Sun’s Board of Directors, and looks forward to serving on the Homeowner Relations Committee and in fundraising.
Mike Lang is a seasoned consultant in the entertainment industry. For over twenty years he has cultivated valuable relationships in the media, digital, finance and technology sectors that will greatly benefit HFH GLA. He is passionate about the organization’s mission and the empowerment that it offers hardworking families.
