Home Completion Celebration Took Place Saturday, April 14th
Los Angeles, CA – April 19, 2012: A little over a month ago, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA), Rt. Rev. Alexei Smith, Director of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and volunteers gathered at a home in South Gate to kickoff the 2012 Lent Build: 40 Days of Building on Faith. On Saturday, April 14th volunteers returned to the home to celebrate its completion, as well as the culmination of the second annual Lent Build event. The 2012 Lent Build: 40 Days of Building on Faith successfully brought together volunteers from congregations crossing denominational lines all across Greater Los Angeles to help HFH GLA build and renovate homes for hardworking, low-income partner homeowners.
“This was a true celebration of what can be accomplished when people come together to build and put their faith into action,” said Erin Rank, President & CEO of HFH GLA. “Our Lent Build volunteers furthered progress on several of our sites and completely finished renovations on the South Gate home. By giving of their time and talents, they’ve change the lives of these homeowner families for generations to come.”
In addition to raising $25,000, over 15 congregations volunteered their time to build on HFH GLA sites throughout Greater Los Angeles and completely finished one home in South Gate for a future HFH GLA partner homeowner. The Lent Build began last year as a way for congregations of all denominations and sizes to acknowledge the Lenten Season by serving others in the community, just as Jesus and his disciples did 2,000 years ago. Congregations interested in building and partnering with the organization may contact Chris Untiet, HFH GLA Faith Relations Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 424-246-HOME (4663).
