More than 800 Volunteers will Help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Transform a Long Beach Neighborhood During Annual Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon

Washington Neighborhood Transformation Begins Nov. 6th through 8th

Los Angeles, CA — November 5, 2014: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) is pleased to announce its annual Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity Build-A-Thon (HBAT) will take place Nov. 6-8 in the Washington Neighborhood in the City of Long Beach. Habitat LA will bring together more than 800 volunteers to revitalize the neighborhood.

During the HBAT, volunteers and partner homeowners will be taking part in a long-term strategy to revitalize this community – the Washington Neighborhood. In three days, volunteers will build two new homes, repair six homes for families residing in the neighborhood and provide repairs for four nonprofit organizations – The Long Beach Rescue Mission, Catholic Charities, Un Mundo de Amigos Preschool and The Guidance Center.

More Than 200 Women Begin Framing of Four New Habitat for Humanity Homes During 10TH Annual “Power Women Power Tools”

Lowe’s, Union Bank, & Sony Pictures Were the Top Sponsors of the Milestone Event

Los Angeles, CA – June 25, 2014: Construction commenced on four new Habitat for Humanity homes in Lynwood last Saturday, thanks to the more than 200 women who volunteered during the 10th Annual Power Women Power Tools (PWPT) event with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA). This year, the event put hundreds of professional women from various sectors, including corporate, entertainment, education and faith to work framing homes alongside more than twenty Habitat LA partner homeowners.

The four homes are part of a seven-home neighborhood currently in progress in Lynwood. The site will feature six homes that are two stories with three bedrooms and 2.5 baths and a three-bedroom, 1.5 bath single story home, which was designed by Michael Graves, a long-standing advocate for the disabled, to be handicap accessible.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Named Largest Non-Profit Residential Developer by The Los Angeles Business Journal

Los Angeles, CA – June 18, 2014: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has been named the largest non-profit Residential Developer in Los Angeles County by The Los Angeles Business Journal’s Book of Lists for 2014. The Book of Lists, published in the publication’s April 28th issue, features a list of the Top 25 Residential Developers in Los Angeles.

Thrivent Financial reaches $200 million in donations to Habitat for Humanity with new 2014 commitment

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles benefits from Thrivent Builds with homebuilding efforts

Los Angeles, CA – February 28, 2014: Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has been awarded $137,500 from Thrivent Financial to build a home in Long Beach, California. This will be the ninth home built in in partnership with Thrivent in greater Los Angeles.  From the national partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent Financial and its members have now committed more than $200 million and more than four million volunteer hours.

The funding is part of an ongoing partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity International, called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity. Through the partnership, Thrivent members, Habitat affiliates and others partner with families across the U.S. and around the world to provide affordable housing and stronger, generous communities.

2nd Annual Palos Verdes Ride for Habitat Raises Nearly $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – April 11, 2013: On Saturday, April 6, 2013, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) hosted the 2nd Annual Palos Verdes Ride for Habitat at the Terranea Resort.   The event offered three courses around the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula including an expert 50-mile ride, an intermediate 34-mile ride and an amateur 17-mile ride.  Nearly 200 cyclists participated, helping to raise more than $90,000 and still counting, which will help HFH GLA build more decent, sustainable and affordable housing.

The PV Ride for Habitat began last year when HFH GLA board member and Palos Verdes resident, Arnold Ng, had a vision to bring together his passion for Habitat for Humanity and cycling. .

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Selected for ‘Affiliate of Distinction’ Honor for its Service and Innovation

Los Angeles, CA – March 26, 2013:  Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) has been selected as one of seven “Affiliates of Distinction” by Habitat for Humanity International.

The Affiliates of Distinction program was established this year by Habitat for Humanity to honor those Habitat affiliates that meet or exceed best-practice standards.

“We are extremely honored to be acknowledged as one of the Inaugural Affiliates of Distinction,” said Erin Rank, president and CEO, HFH GLA. “This award belongs to all of the staff, Board Members and volunteers who carry out our work with passion and integrity every day. We applaud the work of Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the nation, and we are proud to be part of this ministry.”
