How Actress Lisa LoCicero and #PWPT Helped a Dog Find a Home

This past Saturday, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) celebrated its 10th Annual “Power Women, Power Tools” (PWPT) event in Lynwood, California.

The all-day build event was attended by hundreds, from celebrities like Tom Shadyac, Tina Knowles, and Kelly Rowland, to long time HFH GLA staff members and supporters, to local residents who were excited to lend a hand to help improve their neighborhood.

But there was one unexpected attendee at PWPT: a four-legged ball of golden brown fur and a wrinkled face. She was found wandering in a nearby parking lot, and brought to home base by a volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles Named Largest Non-Profit Residential Developer by The Los Angeles Business Journal

PARALLELTEK Increases Support for ANEW by Becoming a Sustaining Sponsor

More than 200 Women Volunteers to Begin Framework for Four New Habitat Homes

The all-women crew of volunteers will be framing walls for four new sustainable, affordable homes in Lynwood, as part of a seven-home neighborhood currently in progress. OTAC Volunteers Celebrate Occupational Therapy Month by Teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles

OTAC Members and Leaders Kicked Off the Partnership by Providing Needed Repairs to the Home of a Local Disabled Veteran

 Los Angeles, CA – May 8, 2014: In celebration of Occupational Therapy Month, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) announced a new partnership with the Occupational Therapy Association of California (OTAC). Through this partnership, OTAC volunteers will assess the homes of disabled homeowners, with a focus on veterans, who apply for Habitat LA’s Home Repair program.   Recommendations will be given to Habitat LA to ensure disabled homeowners receive adequate equipment to improve accessibility. Together, OTAC and Habitat LA hope to help disabled partner homeowners live their lives to the fullest.

ANEW Receives Los Angeles County Green Leadership Award

Los Angeles, CA – April 22, 2014: Asset Network for Education Worldwide (ANEW) was awarded the Green Leadership Award in the nonprofit category today for its outstanding efforts to improve environmental sustainability, which benefits the community and the residents of Los Angeles County. The award was presented during the Board of Supervisors meeting as part of the Los Angeles County observance of Earth Week. A reception was held from 8:30 am to 9:30 am at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration prior to the presentation of the award. In attendance to receive the award was the ANEW team including board members Ron Burkhardt and Yong Wong.

Blogging Advice: Celebrate Those Who Make Your Company Special

We all have someone special in our organization. You know, she is the glue that holds the business together or the “mother hen” who makes everything alright day after day?  Highlighting this person with digital content not only reminds her why she is so beloved, it shows the world the human side of your business.

So, who is your company’s someone special? Get started on a blog. Here are some ideas:

Interview her about her job, ask how long she’s been there and why she loves it? Allow her to reflect on great and funny stories.  Be sure to include a photo.  Bonus points if you interview her on camera and share a video!
Interview everyone else in the company about her.   Ask the team to say why they think she is so unique.  This would also make a great video.  This one will also make her day.
Invite her to guest blog on a particular topic.

Students Travel to Los Angeles to Build Homes During Spring Break as Part of 25th Anniversary of Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge

Students from Air Force Academy, University of Connecticut & Fisher College Spent Spring Break Building Affordable, Sustainable Homes in Lynwood

Los Angeles, CA – April 18, 2014: More than 45 students from The United States Air Force Academy, University of Connecticut and Fisher College participated in the 25th anniversary of Collegiate Challenge with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. Student volunteers chose to spend their spring break working in the Norwalk ReStore, as well as painting and installing siding on seven affordable and sustainable homes in the City of Lynwood.
